Stair-Use Safety Notice
Read before purchase.
This notice describes a real risk of stair use with the current Movo X hardware revision and the guidance you must follow to prevent it. By purchasing the Movo X you acknowledge that you have read and accepted this notice.
Notice version 2026-09-20-v1 · Effective from 2026-09-20 · Applies to hardware revision v1
What can happen
During stair climbing and descent, the stability of the Movo X depends on the rider's body weight staying centered over the frame.
If the rider shifts weight substantially during a stair climb or descent — leaning back, tilting the seatback, or moving the torso side to side — the Movo X can tip over. A tip-over on stairs can cause serious injury or death to the rider and to any person on the stairs below.
This is a known characteristic of the current hardware revision (v1). A wider stability platform is planned for the 2027 revision. We disclose this here, in your order confirmation email, on a printed safety card that ships with your chair, on a placard on the device itself, and verbally on the 24-hour confirmation call with a Movo specialist before your build begins.
How to prevent a tip-over
- We recommend someone assist you on the stairs until you are comfortable. A family member or caregiver walking behind you on ascent and in front of you on descent. Continue until you can consistently keep your body centered without conscious effort.
- Always hold the handrail during stair use — both up and down, just in case. Do not attempt stairs that do not have a continuous handrail alongside them.
- Keep your back flat against the seatback throughout every climb and descent. Do not lean back. Do not recline the seatback during stair use.
- Do not shift your weight during a climb or descent. Sit still. Any adjustment of your position must happen on level ground, not on stairs.
- Practice on short indoor staircases first. Do not attempt long staircases, exterior stairs, spiral stairs, or open-riser stairs until you have completed several uneventful indoor climbs with someone assisting you.
- If the chair feels unstable at any moment, stop. Release the joystick. The auto-brake will hold the chair in place. Do not attempt to correct instability with a weight shift.

Not sure the chair is right for your situation?
Call us at +1 224 255-3315 or email team@movochair.com before ordering. We'd rather tell you the chair isn't the right fit than sell it to you anyway. Specific things to talk through: steep stairs, riders with cognitive impairment, riders who cannot reliably hold a handrail, homes without continuous handrails.
This notice may be updated when we release hardware revisions or refine the guidance. The version you acknowledged at checkout is preserved on your order and available on request at team@movochair.com.
