For the person who refuses to let stairs decide where they live

A wheelchair built for stairs.

Most power wheelchairs end at the bottom step. The Movo X doesn't. It uses traction tracks and a redundant brake system to safely climb residential stairs, curbs, and uneven ground — solo. No caregiver lifting. No installer modifying your home. No physician approval.

No edits. No assistance. The chair, the rider, the stairs.

For the person buying

Most of our customers aren't the rider.

They're the adult son or daughter. The spouse. The caregiver. Buying this for someone who needs it and might not yet be ready to admit they do.

For your parent

Lets them stay in their two-story home. Gets them to the bedroom on the second floor. Brings them back to family dinners on the third floor of the brownstone. Returns the parts of their life that stairs took away.

For your spouse

You stop carrying. They stop apologizing. The marriage stops being about logistics. Stairs become something the chair does — not something you do together every night.

For yourself

If you're a caregiver buying this for the person you care for: this gives both of you back the parts of your day that aren't transfers and assists. That's the real product.

Safety, the long version

Will my person be safe on stairs?

This is the question that keeps families up at night. Here's exactly what the chair does to answer it.

Two independent braking systems

Every step engages both: a regenerative motor brake AND a mechanical spring-loaded disc brake. The disc brake is closed by default — it requires power to release. With dead batteries, the chair physically cannot roll free.

Hardware-limited descent speed

Coming down stairs, the maximum speed is mechanically capped at 15 steps per minute. Even if every control is released, the chair cannot roll faster. No software override exists.

Tip detection auto-stops the chair

A 9-axis sensor reads chair angle 200 times per second. If pitch exceeds 40° forward (which would only happen on stairs steeper than the chair's spec), the brake locks and the chair powers down. Riders cannot accidentally tip forward.

If something fails, the chair holds in place

The safety design assumes that with enough units in the field, something will eventually fail. Built so that any failure leaves the chair safely on the stairs with the rider in it. Never a runaway.

FAQ

What families ask.

Will it fit our house?

For most North American homes, yes. The chair needs: stair width 28+ inches, step height up to 8 inches, step depth 9+ inches, top landing 36×36 inches, and door widths 26+ inches. If your stairs are spiral, floating without risers, or very narrow, the chair won't work. Email team@movochair.com with 3 photos and we'll tell you straight, usually within a business day.

How does my parent learn to use it?

Every order includes a free 1-on-1 video onboarding call with a mobility specialist before first ride. 30 minutes, with you in the room if you want. The chair is designed around a single right-armrest joystick — no complex multi-button operations that require fine motor dexterity.

What if they refuse to use it?

Honest answer: 30-day money-back guarantee, we pay return shipping. We'd rather you return it than have it sit unused in a garage. Bookmark this page and come back in 3 months if needed — the conversation often goes better the second time.

What if it breaks?

2-year warranty covers parts and labor with no deductible. For user-replaceable parts (battery, joystick, controller), we ship the part free with a video repair guide — 10-20 minute fix at home. For complex repairs, prepaid shipping label and 7-10 day turnaround at our service center. 24/7 emergency line: +1 224 255-3315.
